It's Armenian Press Day today
Society
This is the eighth year that October 16 is celebrated as Armenian Press Day.
It was on this day in the year 1794 that the first Armenian print periodical, the Aztarar (Monitor), was published in Madras (Chennai), India. Aztarar was a monthly, it was published until 1796, and a total of eighteen issues were published.
In connection with this, in 2004 the Government of Armenia had declared October 16 as the “Press Worker’s Day,” which later was renamed the “Armenian Press Day.”
