Overchuk: Russia, Armenia interested in opening new routes for cargo transportation
WorldRegarding cooperation in the transport sector, we continue the implementation of the previously reached agreements with the Armenian side. The South Caucasus Railway CJSC operates here under a concession agreement to create comfortable conditions for passenger transportation. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk stated this in Yerevan on Friday.
"I would also like to note the positive dynamics of road transport. We have paid special attention to the reconstruction of the international checkpoint of Upper Lars [at the Russian-Georgian border]. On June 14, 2023, the operation of all 39-vehicle lanes was ensured, and the capacity of the checkpoint: up to 3,900 vehicles per day.
"Sadly, due to natural and climatic considerations, Upper Lars cannot ensure transport connection all year round, which seriously hinders the development of relations between our countries. Therefore, Russia, like Armenia, is interested in the diversification of transport routes and the opening of new cargo transportation routes between our countries.
"We welcome the signing of an agreement in April 2023 on the use of navigational seals in the Eurasian Economic Union to track cargo transportations. I believe it is advisable to start its practical application," said the Russian deputy premier.
