Parliament speaker: There is nothing anti-Russian in Armenia
RussiaI don't rule it out. This is how the speaker of the National Assembly (NA) off Armenia, Alen Simonyan, responded speaking with reporters in the NA Friday—and referring to the statement by the Russian ambassador to Armenia that new talks have begun on the arms deal between Armenia and Russia.
To remind, Russian ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin had told TASS that new agreements on technico-military cooperation between Russia and Armenia were being discussed.
"You say it's about weapons, and you want me to tell you everything. It is a general discussion in which all quoted matters can be included. Wait, let's see what it is," said the speaker of the Armenian parliament.
Also, Simonyan emphasized that the Russian side not only did not want, but was unable to sell weapons to Armenia.
"I am not even sure that we can say until the end that we will have what we will negotiate. We will live, we will see," he added.
Regarding the remark that technico-military agreements are being discussed amid an anti-Russian backdrop in Armenia, the NA speaker said: "Who has an anti-Russian backdrop? The word ‘anti-Russian’ is wrong because the Armenian and Russian peoples are friendly peoples. There is nothing anti-Russian in Armenia, there is dislike towards the policy, for the steps that have been taken in recent years. Let's not turn it into an anti-Russian backdrop."
In addition, Alen Simonyan did not rule out that next year Armenia will take over the chairmanship of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
"Thanks to that cooperation, our economy also provides growth. And I believe the [Armenian] government will make the right decision," said the speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia.
