Justice minister: Extensive work being done to protect rights of Armenians held in Azerbaijan captivity
PoliticalExtensive work is being carried out to protect the rights of the Armenians in Azerbaijani captivity. The Minister of Justice of Armenia, Grigor Minasyan, informed about this at Monday’s press conference to sum up their activities in 2023.
The minister reminded that in December, more than 30 Armenian captives were returned from Azerbaijan, and Armenia, in turn, handed over two Azerbaijani convicts to their country.
According to Minasyan, great diplomatic work is being carried out through Armenia’s foreign ministry and embassies to inform the international community about what actually happened, who those people—i.e. the past and present Nagorno-Karabakh leaders in Azerbaijani captivity—are, their political past.
Also, they are being visited by the ICRC, and this ensures these Armenian captives’ contact with their relatives, Minasyan noted.
The representative of the Armenian government in charge of international and legal matters actively works in international judicial bodies to protect the rights of these captives, he said.
"I am sure that extensive work is being carried out, and in the future there will be an opportunity to present the judgments in these cases," added the minister of justice of Armenia.
