Armenia FM on relations with EU: There is long way to go

There is a long way to go in terms of the development and deepening of relations between Armenia and the EU. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated this at Wednesday’s joint news conference with his visiting Greek counterpart, George Gerapetritis.

The Armenian FM assured, however, that there are a number of respective specific actions and programs on the table stemming from the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA)—and not only.

"The dialogue is long, and we have just heard assurances of Greece's willingness to cooperate. We [i.e. Armenia] will certainly rely on these assurances. Armenia, for its part, is intensively continuing the process of reforms in various domains, and we are sure that they, in turn, bring Armenia closer to the EU," said Mirzoyan.

In the context of the dialogue with the EU, Armenian FM emphasized that the current EU monitoring mission in Armenia is of existential importance for the country in terms of security.

"This is a factor ensuring security on the border with Azerbaijan, and this is a topic that needs consistent continuation," Mirzoyan noted, recalling that the EU recently decided to increase and extend this mission's mandate, and Armenia welcomed it.
