Cigarette smuggling prevented at Georgia borders with Turkey, Armenia, Russia
Emergency CaseIn December 2023, officers of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia seized 2,299 packs of undeclared cigarettes at five customs points of the country and prevented attempts to smuggle contraband into the country, the press service of the Revenue Service informed.
In particular, such attempts were prevented at Georgia’s customs offices in Sarpi (border with Turkey border), Sadakhlo (border with Armenia), Vale (border with Turkey), Ninotsminda (border with Armenia), and Kazbegi (border with Russia).
As a result of careful inspection of the citizens of various countries, as well as their personal luggage and cars, the employees of the aforementioned customs offices found 45,980 undeclared cigarettes.
According to the customs legislation of Georgia, these goods were confiscated from the violators, and each of them was fined 1,000 laris.
And seven persons who violated this ban twice were fined 3,000 laris.
