Why most people cradle babies in left arm?
WorldThe vast majority of people prefer to cradle a baby in the crook of their left arm. Researchers from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology have confirmed this fact by studying 765 people.
It was found that regardless of whether they knew how to hold a baby, 75 percent of the participants instinctively used their non-dominant arm to cradle the baby.
One theory is that most people cradle a baby to the left so that it can hear their heartbeat better, thereby soothing it.
But researchers are inclined to another theory, according to which the pattern found can be explained by the convenience of keeping the dominant arm free to perform several actions while holding the baby.
However, as babies get bigger and heavier, most people tend to hold them using their dominant and stronger arm.
The aforementioned research was published in the journal Infancy.
