We stress active citizen formation by changing ‘Armenian History’ school subject name to ‘History of Armenia’
ArmeniaAny change that is implemented always has resistance, and there are always people who have counterarguments. Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, Araksia Svajyan told this to reporters Wednesday—and referring to the initiative to change the name of the school subject "Armenian History" with "History of Armenia."
"But it is important to weigh, understand the rationale, and move forward accordingly. No one has spoken about the fact that we will study the history of the Armenian people at certain intervals or interludes. If we talk about our country, our people, our culture, religion, then the entire chronology will be studied in school.
"Naturally, we cannot skip the phases when we did not have statehood. No one is talking about the fact that this or that historical episode will not be studied. We attach great importance to inculcating in children in schools the tasks of becoming active citizens, valuing their role aimed at the development of their country, getting their education in a dignified way," added the deputy minister.
