Armenia, Azerbaijan legislatures’ speakers to meet in Switzerland?
PoliticalThe Armenian side considers a meeting between the speakers of the parliaments of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Switzerland possible in March. This was announced by the office of the speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, in response to Sputnik Armenia's inquiry.
In early February, the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Martin Chungong, had announced that a meeting between the speakers of the parliaments of Armenia and Azerbaijan was planned to be held within the framework of the next IPU assembly to be held in March in Switzerland.
The NA spokesperson's office informed that they have not yet received a clear proposal about a planned meeting between the speakers of the parliaments of Armenia and Azerbaijan between March 23 and 27, but they do not rule out such a possibility.
"Having a meeting of such a format is discussable for us," the NA spokesperson's office added.
They noted there that they will be able to give a clear decision and answer in case of additional information.
