The European Commission launched an investigation into TikTok
PublicationsThe European Commission has launched an investigation into the social network TikTok for violation of the Digital Services Act (DSA). The EC announced on its official website on February 19.
In particular, the platform will be checked "in such areas as the protection of minors, transparency of advertising, access of researchers to data, as well as risk management associated with addictive design and harmful content," - stated in the message on the website of the European Commission, reports DW. It is noted that the decision to proceed was made following a preliminary investigation.
If TikTok is found guilty of violating DSA rules, the social network will face a fine of up to 6% of its global turnover. In December 2023, the European Commission launched a DSA investigation against social network X of Ilon Musk. It is being checked for possible violation of content removal requirements. In addition, the EC wants to find out whether the company is doing enough to combat manipulation and misinformation on the platform.
