European champions Arsen Harutyunyan, Arman Andreasyan, rest of Team Armenia are welcome at Yerevan airport
VideoEuropean champions Arsen Harutyunyan, Arman Andreasyan, bronze medalist Mezhlum Mezhlumyan, and the rest of Team Armenia, who returned from the European Freestyle Wrestling Championships held in Romania, were welcomed with great pomp at Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan.
There was a championship atmosphere at the airport. The fans were waiting for the medal winners—with posters, and the photos of Harutyunyan and Andreasyan.
The president of the Wrestling Federation of Armenia Robert Khachatryan, secretary general of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia Hrachya Rostomyan, numerous residents of Masis city, parents, relatives, and friends of these athletes had come to the airport to welcome the champions.
The fans welcomed the four-time European champion, Arman Andreasyan, and Mezhlum Mezhlumyan in the waiting room with the traditional salt and bread.
Arsen Harutyunyan was greeted by his wife and 6-month-old daughter, Maria, who were waiting for the champion in the corner of the waiting room.
On February 16-18, Team Armenia won two gold and one bronze medal at the European Freestyle Wrestling Championships held in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. Arsen Harutyunyan and Arman Andreasyan became gold medalists.
Arsen Harutyunyan (57 kg) defeated Muhammet Karavus (Turkey) 10-0 in 52 seconds in the final and won the European champion title for the fourth time.
Arman Andreasyan (70 kg) beat Akaki Kemertelidze (Georgia) 7-3 in a fierce fight in the final and was declared European champion for the first time .
D Mezhlum Mezhlumyan (61 kg) became the bronze medalist. In the fight for the bronze, Mezhlumyan defeated Niklas Stechele (Germany) with a score of 7-5. And in the consolation match, he won 5-4 against Shota Phartenadze (Georgia).
Armenia placed fourth in the overall team standings.
