Numerous fans welcome Armenia national weightlifting team at Yerevan airport
VideoThere was again joy and championship mood last night at Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan.
Family members, friends, and numerous fans welcomed the Armenian national weightlifting team members, who returned with victory from the European Championships.
Newly crowned European champions Varazdat Lalayan, Hakob Mkrtchyan, Gor Sahakyan, Aleksandra Grigoryan, and the other six medal winners returned to their homeland.
In the medal count, Team Armenia took first place in the European Championships.
The crowd at the airport waiting hall welcomed the champions and the other medalists with applause, Armenian folk music, banners, and bouquets.
Team Armenia, comprising 17 weightlifters, won 4 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze medals at the 2024 European Weightlifting Championships held in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, between February 12 and 20. Armenia finished first, with 10 medals, in combined total.
Aleksandra Grigoryan (55 kg), Gor Sahakyan (67 kg), and Hakob Mkrtchyan (96 kg) became European champions.
Davit Hovhannisyan (96 kg), Samvel Gasparyan, and Simon Martirosyan became silver medalists.
Rafik Harutyunyan (81 kg), Garik Karapetyan, and Hripsime Khurshudyan won bronze medals.
Team Armenia won 26 medals in total.
