Historic opportunity created for peace in region: Bayramov
PollsOn March 15, the 9th trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey was held in Baku.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said that the existing regional cooperation between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, based on historical neighborly and friendly relations, rests on the fundamental principles of international law, such as territorial integrity and sovereignty.
He noted that the existing high-level dialogue between the three countries, the inter-parliamentary relations, as well as the relations between different state structures contribute to cooperation on regional and international platforms. Bayramov emphasized the existence of a mutually beneficial cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey in economy, trade, investment, energy security, transport and communication, agriculture, rational management of water resources, high technologies, tourism, humanitarian and other fields.
Bayramov presented to his colleagues the details of the agenda of peace and settlement of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan stated that a historic opportunity for peace in the region has been created. At the same time, Bayramov once again insisted that there is revanchist rhetoric in Armenia, and the international community should not encourage it, but should support direct bilateral negotiations as part of the settlement process.
Issues arising from the current agenda of multilateral cooperation of the three countries, perspectives of regional cooperation and other bilateral and multilateral issues were discussed at the meeting. At the end of the trilateral meeting, the Baku declaration was signed, and the ministers made statements.
