Armenia should participate in BRICS summit based on its interests: Alen Simonyan
Videon a conversation with journalists at the National Assembly, Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan referred to the observation that it is circulating on the Internet that Armenia's authorities seem to be backing away from the idea of going to Europe, the reason for which is also the participation in the CIS summit.
"First, let's understand why the CIS is so important, because one of the foundations of the CIS is the Alma Ata declaration. The Alma-Ata Declaration is one of the foundations of the CIS, with which Armenia is working in negotiations directions. And we can’t abandon a format whose main document is placed as the foundation in our main negotiations. This is highly important also in terms of security," said Alen Simonyan.
"We, I have always said, should not fall from one extreme to the other, and our value system and logic have not changed in any way. It will be a direction consistent with Armenia's economy, rights, and value system, and that direction continues," he said.
The Speaker of the National Assembly also referred to the expectations from BRICS. "As for BRICS, yes, a decision has been made. Economically, Armenia has important ties, and I don't think we should leave the region. In this situation, when various sanctions are in place, various ways are sought by countries and superpowers to somehow shift economic flows, and Armenia must participate pursuant to its own interests."
As we have already reported, Armenia will participate in the BRICS summit to be held in Kazan in October.
Armenia will participate in the BRICS summit to be held on October 22-24 at the level of the Prime Minister.
