US is concerned that Venezuela presidential election results do not reflect people’s will, Blinken says
Emergency CaseThe US authorities have “serious concerns” that the results of the presidential elections announced by the Venezuelan authorities do not reflect the will of the Venezuelan people. This was stated by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the ministerial meeting of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad)—comprising Australia, India, the US, and Japan.
“We have seen the announcement just a short while ago by the Venezuelan Electoral Commission,” Blinken said. “We have serious concerns that the result announced does not reflect the will or the votes of the Venezuelan people.”
As reported earlier, according to the National Electoral Council of Venezuela, after counting 80 percent of the votes, 51.2 percent of the voters have supported the candidacy of incumbent President Nicolas Maduro.
