European Parliament President welcomes Armenia’s desire to enhance relations with EU
VideoPresident of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has welcomed Armenia’s desire to enhance relations with the EU.
In a letter to Armenian Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan, Metsola said that the newly agreed EU-Armenia Partnership Agenda as well as the launching of a dialogue on visa liberalization with Armenia are “clear signs of our enhanced relations.”
“Dear President Simonyan,
“Thank you for your letter of congratulations dated 16 July 2024 on my election as President of the European Parliament. It is my privilege and responsibility to continue leading this European Institution.
“The European Parliament recognizes and welcomes the fact that Armenia has strongly emphasized its desire to enhance and prioritize relations with the European Union. The newly agreed EU-Armenia Partnership Agenda as well as the launching of a dialogue on visa liberalization with Armenia are clear signs of our enhanced relations.
“I hope that the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia will have the opportunity to resume its relations with the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with the South Caucasus countries following the latter’s forthcoming constitutive meeting now that the newly-elected Members of the European Parliament have taken up their office. I trust that this will provide a key forum for furthering inter-parliamentary cooperation,” EP President Metsola said in the letter.
