Alen Simonyan marks 10th anniversary of Yazidi Genocide in Sinjar with message
The President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, sent a message on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the genocide against the Yazidi people in Sinjar. The message reads as follows:
“Today, we commemorate the 10th anniversary of the genocide against the Yezidi people in Sinjar, a tragic event where thousands of Yazidis died and tens of thousands became refugees in the 21st century.
For years, Armenia has spoken out about the crimes committed against the Yazidis in various international forums. In 2018, it adopted a National Assembly statement, and this year, with an amendment made by the Parliament of the Republic of Armenia to the Law "On Holidays and Memorial Days of the Republic of Armenia," August 3 is considered in Armenia as the Memorial Day of the Victims of the 2014 Yazidi Genocide in Sinjar.
I express my support to the Yazidis of Armenia and the world, assuring that the Republic of Armenia will continue to make all efforts within its international capabilities to prevent the repetition of such crimes against humanity.”
