Nagasaki mayor calls on nuclear powers, countries under umbrella of nuclear weapons to give up these weapons
The nuclear powers and the countries under the umbrella of nuclear weapons must change their policies and work towards a complete elimination of nuclear weapons. This was stated by the mayor of Nagasaki, Shiro Suzuki, during the commemoration ceremony on the 79th anniversary of the atomic bombing of this Japanese city by the US.
"The leaders of nuclear powers and the leaders of countries under the umbrella of nuclear weapons: you have to look at the reality that the threat to humanity will only increase as long as nuclear weapons exist," Suzuki said, stressing that these countries must make a sharp turn in their policies and move towards the complete elimination of nuclear weapons.
The mayor of Nagasaki added that a personal visit to Hiroshima and Nagasaki cities of Japan will help the leaders of such countries to realize the horror of nuclear weapons.
To note, however, Japan is also under the umbrella of US nuclear weapons.
