Russia designates Clooney Foundation for Justice as undesirable organization
The Russian authorities said on Monday they had designated The Clooney Foundation for Justice, a U.S. non-profit group founded by actor George Clooney and his wife Amal Clooney, as an "undesirable" organization.
Russian news agencies reported that prosecutors deemed the organization’s work to “discredit” the country and “support false patriots who have left the country.” The statement issued by the Russian prosecution also accused the American NGO of supporting “members of extremist groups and terrorist organizations.”
The Clooney Foundation for Justice, according to its official website, was founded “to hold perpetrators of mass atrocities accountable for their crimes, and to help victims in their fight for justice.”
