Macron on military cooperation with Armenia: Baku armed itself much better than Yerevan
RussiaSupplying partners with arms and ammunition for self-defense is normal. French President Emmanuel Macron said this at a press conference on the margins of the European Political Community summit in London, commenting on the question of an Azerbaijani journalist about arms supplies to Armenia.
"It is normal to respond to the request of a sovereign country that wants to arm itself, feeling that it may be subject to aggression by another state. And I have never heard from Prime Minister Pashinyan that he has any plan for war or aggression,” the French leader said.
As Macron noted, Azerbaijan has been arming itself much better than Armenia over the past decade.
"If you look, over the last decade, Azerbaijan seems to have been arming itself much better than Armenia. And if my memory serves me correctly (correct me if I'm wrong), it was Azerbaijan that started a terrible war in 2020,” the French president said. He emphasized that if Yerevan and Baku finalize a peace treaty, Paris will support it.
"I think that from a military point of view, cooperation with any country is a completely normal phenomenon in the international life of two sovereign states.
Armenia's perspective is peace, France's perspective is peace. I really hope that Azerbaijan's perspective is also peace. And if the two countries finalize a peace agreement, we will support it,” Macron concluded.
