Vassilis Maragos: EU monitoring mission’s presence in Armenia already gives very concrete results
PoliticalThe EU assists Armenia's economic development. With the economic investment program, more than 600 million euros have already been invested for the implementation of infrastructure projects, which were planned for a long time, but now they are already becoming a reality. Ambassador Vassilis Maragos, Head of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Armenia, stated this on Wednesday.
The presence of the EU monitoring mission in Armenia is already giving very concrete results, assisting human safety. This also shows how far the EU is ready to go regarding Armenia, Maragos said.
The success of the [EU] Eastern Partnership was noted earlier. The Eastern Partnership is part of this framework, but there are some peculiarities in Armenia-Turkey-Azerbaijan relations, Armenia-Georgia relations. There are also bilateral relations between these countries and the EU, which can play a positive role. The EU always uses its toolkit, perhaps not always very effectively because it depends also on other partners. But an attempt is being made to get the most out of this toolkit to promote peace, prosperity, connectedness, and right-based international order. These elements are part of the same process, Maragos added.
According to the EU ambassador to Armenia, results should be given regarding the already existing cooperation, and it is a critical element in moving forward. Vassilis Maragos noted that the EU member states are very supportive of the current agenda and EU-Armenia relations.
