VideoArmenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov, will meet today in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
This meeting between the FMs of Armenia and Azerbaijan was arranged at the suggestion of the Kazakh side.
Earlier, Armenia announced that it agrees to negotiations on a peace treaty with Azerbaijan in Kazakhstan. In the Kazakh capital, Astana, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev had publicly spoken about the meeting between Mirzoyan and Bayramov.
And that was preceded by the visit of the President of Kazakhstan to Armenia. In Yerevan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev had announced that they are ready to provide the two parties with a platform for negotiations.
The Russian foreign ministry also welcomed the initiative to hold this meeting.
The Kazakh side, for its part, stated that Astana does not act as a mediator, but only provides a platform.
Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov last negotiated in February in Berlin. However, the parties did not report any tangible progress.
