We have yet to hear counterarguments against proposed legislation: Kobakhidze on conversation with Michel

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said he had a conversation with Charles Michel, President of the European Council, regarding the Draft Laws On Transparency of Foreign Influence and On the Protection of Family Values and Minors.

 

The PM said he had conveyed “my disappointment that despite numerous invitations, our partners have been reluctant to engage in substantive discussions on transparency law.”

 

”Furthermore, I highlighted that we have not yet heard any counterarguments against this proposed legislation, which is solely aimed at promoting transparency and accountability of relevant organizations vis-à-vis Georgian society.

 

I brought to the attention of the President of the European Council the active involvement of foreign-funded organizations in two attempted revolutions in Georgia between 2020 and 2023.

 

In this context, I emphasized that the enactment of the transparency law is a crucial prerequisite for achieving depolarization, which is the main recommendation of the European Union,” the PM stated.
