At least 20 killed in Pakistan bus accident
SocietyAt least 20 people were killed and 20 others were injured after a passenger bus fell into a gorge in Pakistan, Geo TV reports.
According to police, the bus was traveling from Rawalpindi to Gilgit and the accident took place around 5:30am on Friday. A police representative noted that the accident took place 20 kilometers from the city of Chilas, and the bus fell into the deep valley due to excessive speed.
Diamer District Police Deputy Commissioner Fayyaz Ahmed told Geo News that the condition of at least five injured passengers is serious.
“Rescue operation, in which army helicopters also participated, has been completed in the affected area,” he said.
Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif expressed his grief on the loss of lives and conveyed his sympathies to the families of the victims. Also, he instructed the relevant authorities to provide all possible medical assistance to the injured.
