Hungary blocking provision of €1M aid to Armenia from EU European Peace Facility
SocietyHungary blocks the program of providing support to Armenia from the European Peace Facility of the European Union (EU)—and which was previously agreed upon in the bloc.
A diplomatic source of the RFE/RL Armenian Service reports that Hungary demands that Azerbaijan be included in this program, which, according to the same source, is on the discussion table in order to break the deadlock regarding the matter.
In mid-April, the RFE/RL Armenian Service had learned that a preliminary agreement was reached in Brussels to provide 10 million euros of aid to Armenia from the European Peace Facility. According to diplomatic documents, the respective funding is to be used for setting up a field modular camp for a battalion—and which shall include a medical aid clinic, as well as relevant services and capacity.
"The purpose of this support is to help the Armenian armed forces increase their resilience and stability-building capabilities, thereby better protecting the civilian population during crises and emergencies," reads the aforesaid document, the adoption of which has been blocked by Hungary for several weeks now.
