“Haykakan Zhamanak”: Armenian National Congress representatives waiting for good news
Armenian Press
Armenia’s mass media are more and more convinced that Chairman of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Gagik Tsarukyan will not run for presidency next year.
However, just a couple of weeks ago the mass media supporting the PAP were preparing the public for Mr Tsarukyan’s nomination. On Tuesday, some mass media outlets close to Armenia’s ex-FM Vartan Oskanian were critical of the PAP leader for striking a deal with Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan. However, one should not draw a final conclusion yet as it is official statements that are supposed to “settle issues.”
But if the process goes on according to the revised backstage scenario, it means that the recent developments are nothing but President Serzh Sargsyan’s election campaign, while the numerous opposition and alternative forces have only exerted efforts to ensure his victory in the forthcoming presidential election along with causing deeper social depression for it to be unable and unwilling to rebel after the curtain is raised.
The nomination of Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Chairman of the opposition bloc Armenian National Congress (ANC) is one of the issues related to the forthcoming presidential election in Armenia. A number of ANC members have been waiting for good news for the last few days. May be they hope the PAP will announce its support for the ANC leader in the presidential election or Mr Ter-Petrosyan will announce his intention to run for presidency. Any clear forecasts are difficult to make because the opposition and alternative forces are only dropping hints, which do not rule out any developments.
