World Soccer magazine recognized Argentinean national football squad and Spain’s FC Barcelona striker Lionel Messi as the 2012 world footballer of the year, Barcastuff Twitter page reports.

Note, that Messi has already scored 88 goals in thereby breaking the record for most goals netted in one calendar year. The 25- year- old Argentine had recently surpassed German football legend Gerd Muller’s all- time record of 85 goals which he had scored back 1972.
