On Tuesday, at his residence Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan received media representatives.
He congratulated all of them on the coming News Year and Christmas and thanked them for high-quality coverage of events, especially the parliamentary elections.
“I cannot recall an election in the history of independent Armenia when the participants could have such a free access to information as during the recent parliamentary elections. I have noticed one thing more. Many of our journalists are showing mastery of putting their opinions aside in covering political processes. Their professionalism is noteworthy. What we have achieved together and what proved apparent during the recent elections was a really serious accomplishment, whereafter we have no right to errors,” the Armenian leader said.
On the other hand, President Serzh Sargsyan stressed numerous problems that need solving yet. According to him, public demand and the authorities’ political will are two major factors in achieving goals. “So we are allies and jointly carrying out a mission, and not our country’s present, but also its foreseeable future depend on it. We are living in a period of development of new means of communication, which are competing with the traditional press and television. At the same time they are working side by side. Everyone has to work more or less. And it is our duty to help everyone,” Armenia’s leader said.
President Serzh Sargsyan also spoke of next year. It will be a crucial year for Armenia. The achievements in covering the recent parliamentary elections should be considered the minimum level in the 2013 presidential election.
“We must do more, and it is not the elections that are in question. We are following the way of building up a modern state and society. And journalists’ role is great. Moreover, great is the responsibility of the people that are in contact with people almost every day. My call is that we should not forget about our serious goals, and you are also ones expressing them, dear journalists,” Armenia’s leader said.
