Georgian Patriarchate denied a quote ascribed to Azerbaijani media of the Georgian Orthodox Church (GOC) Ilie II allegedly that Nagorno Karabakh belongs to Azerbaijan.
As Lurer.com reported, Azerbaijani media reported that during a meeting Ilia II and Chairman of Caucasian Muslims Office, Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, Georgian Patriarch said that "Nagorno Karabakh belongs and will belong to Azerbaijan."
"I will never agree with the opinion that we have lost our land. Not at all, we just temporarily lost control over these territories. But justice prevails. As Abkhazia and South Ossetia are the traditional lands of Georgia, Nagorno-Karabakh has belonged and will belong to Azerbaijan ", Azerbaijani news agency anspress.com quotes.
Meanwhile, the head of the External Relations Department of the Georgian Patriarchate, Master Gerasim told Armenian media that Ilia II did not make that declaration, and it is not true. "Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II has not announced on Karabakh," he stressed.
