Raffi Hovhannisyan has supporters

The Labor Socialist Party of Armenia is going to support the Heritage party leader in the February presidential election.

The socialist leader Movses Shahverdyan thinks his party’s support will increase Raffi Hovhannisyan’s chances. According to him, the only way to a real regime change is putting an end to what he called the chain of three presidents. “We all know changing a government through elections is impossible in Armenia, but that has to be an occasion for carrying it out. Nevertheless, I don’t think the elections are predetermined,” he said.

Shahverdyan noted that his party backed first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan in 2008, adding that their decision might be different this time had he or the leader of the Prosperous Armenia party nominated themselves.

Shahverdyan also noted that Raffi Hovhannisyan is quite experienced and literate, a bearer of a very good set of values, which we need today. He has clearly set forth our problems,” he said, noting that the society’s little distrust in the politician is not absolutely unsolvable problem.
