Arnold Stepanyan: "It is desirable that the information on new power block was available to neighboring countries."
Armenia
The head of "Multinational Georgia" Arnold Stepanyan, in a conversation with Lurer.com referring to the rumors that he is against the construction of the Metsamor nuclear power plant, as the Metsamor nuclear power plant could threaten Armenia and around the earthquake-prone region, said:
"The published interview was out of context. I was asked about the new power block construction, not Metsamor. I believe that, in connection with the construction of the block, it is first necessary to examine public opinion, and, secondly, what is important when making this decision the view of neighboring countries must be taken into account."
Stepanyan said that the question was asked by Azerbaijani reporter the answer of which was that it was first necessary to consider the opinion of the people and the Government of the Republic of Armenia.
"We need to seek the views of local people and members of the public in connection with the construction of new power block of Metsamor. Metsamor nuclear power plant could threaten Armenia and around the earthquake-prone region. The public has no information about this station. It is necessary to examine this issue.
Information on the construction of new power should be available to neighboring countries. That's all I said, but the Armenian media took what I said as if I was against the construction of the block. I am against the use of nuclear energy, but in the absence of alternatives, of course it can be used, but requires a special control by the government", said Arnold Stepanyan.
