Serzh Sargsyan attended the meeting of the FIDE Presidential Board

President of Armenia, head of chess federation Serzh Sargsyan participated on Saturday in the meeting of FIDE presidential board held in Tsakhkadzor.

The meeting was attended by FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, 23 FIDE members and 20 representatives of chess federations.

Welcoming the delegates, President Sargsyan noted that Armenia’s role in chess, referring to achievements of Armenian national in Olympiad and World Championship.

"Armenia's national team, which became the winner and won the international chess competitions and world championships, consists of these stars. Armenian chess players are examples for children who are familiar with this wise game already in the public schools. Football players are trying to catch up with them in their achievements. Chess is not just a game, it is an art and a science. Chess develops attention and will to win.Besides, chess is a wonderful tool for dialogue between different cultures. That is why we pay so much attention to chess and included it into the education system", said the President.

Summing up, Serzh Sargsyan said that Armenia is deeply satisfied with cooperation with FIDE, and intends to continue and deepen this cooperation.
