Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas abandonded the pitch at Mestalla in the 17th minute of the Copa game against Valencia. He was replaced by Antonio Adán. The injury had occurred three minutes earlier when teammate Álvaro Arbeloa accidentally kicked him in the left hand following a corner.

Casillas received treatment on the pitch and clearly wanted to continue but in the end had to leave the field. Ironically, something similar had happened not long ago when it was Adán who had to leave the pitch and Casillas who replaced him.

It was in the Real Madrid-Real Sociedad league match, when Adán was sent off in the sixth minute and replaced by Casillas.

Cristiano Ronaldo wore the captain's armband after Casillas left the pitch.

Preliminary medical examinations revealed that his hand was badly bruised, but no bones had been damaged.
