Shakhtar vs Sweden: statistics of friendlies

Both Shakhtar and Gothenburg have taken part in the Copa del Sol, but they have never faced each other. Moreover, the match, which will be held on 25 January, will be the first ever meeting between these two clubs. As for the other Swedish clubs, there have been some games involving them and Shakhtar.

In July 1962, Shakhtar travelled to this Scandinavian country to play four matches. The Pitmen recorded two wins, one draw and one defeat. Shakhtar scored 15 goals, conceding 12. Our team faced Halmia, Hammarby, Sundsvall and Orgryte. The last team are from Gothenburg, where the match was played.

In March 1999, when the Ukraine national team were playing a friendly game against Georgia and Euro 2000 qualifiers, Shakhtar headed to Cyprus. One of the matches was the meeting with Stenungsund, which ended 1-1.

The Pitmen also played two games against Kalmar. In 2010, our team got a 2-0 win in the group stage of the Copa del Sol tournament, held in Marbella, Spain. After a couple of years, Shakhtar claimed a more confident victory, beating the opponents 5-1. That game was also held in Spain, but this time in La Manga.
