"Haykakan Zhamanak": Hovik Abrahamyan about becoming Prime Minister

Haykakan Zhamanak daily interviewed Armenian National Assembly Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan.

-Mr. Abrahamyan, Serzh Sargsyan's this campaign is different from the 2008 campaign, in particular he meets with his voters in the halls. Why was it decided, did it finally become clear for the Republicans not to assemble people in such a way?

- No, we have discussed the effectiveness of these meetings, and in my opinion, we have chosen the right strategy, in each region center an outdoor meeting and in the other cities hall meeting, as well as taking into account the weather, taking into account that it sould be comfort for people.

In 2008, we were organizing a lot of outdoor meetings, because the President had a task to present people. It was the first time, people, of course, knew him, but we preferred that he meetings were outdoor because the halls had limited space, a lot of people want to come, but they could not participate.

-The rumors about dismissing the PM [Tigran Sargsyan] became more active in recent days. There were analyses that Tigran Sargsyan will be dismissed; they are saying that you once again are attempting to become PM, but it is not working out. To what extent are these rumors true?

-I understand why these rumors became more intensive; it is linked to the presidential elections, that a new government will be formed afterward. I have not changed my view which I had said; I have no intention to become PM. As for the talk about dismissing the serving of the Premier, I think they are just rumors. The PM is working in normal fashion, and no matter is discussed at the executive body of our party".

- They say that he is in a very bad mood and has become nervous.

-I do not think I have not seen such trend.

- The new government's form is discussed.

- No question has been discussed.

-I am talking about backstage discussions.

- Well, everything can be in the backstage, but the party has not discussed such thing. In my opinion, it is not serious, so that the presidential elections have not been completed yet, when the election will be over, then there will be discussions.

-Do you deny or do you think it is possible that after the elections, however, once again the party will form a coalition with PAP?

-Everything is possible, never say never in politics. But the issue has not been discussed, there is no such agreement.

- There are rumors that PAP members very often visit RPA headquarters. For example, Vardan Vardanyan was there yesterday, Harutyun Kushkyan was there last week. This means that they are going to support Serzh Sargsyan?

-I have not seen, I heve seen neither Harutyun Kushkyan, nor Vardan Vardanyan, I do not know why they have come, but I have not seen.

-Mr. Abrahamyan, today is your birthday, how are you going to celebrate it?

- Yesterday night I celebrated my birthday with my grandchildren, children, wife, and this format is already the third year that I prefer, and today we are working as usual of course, I have received many congratulations from my colleagues from Russia, Kazakhstan and etc.
