Armenia celebrates the 21st anniversary of the Armenian Army

Today marks the 21st anniversary of the Armenian Army.

On January 28, 1992 Armenian government made a historic decision "On the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia", thus legally declared the creation of the Armenian National Army.

In obedience to the Ministry were transferred newly established patrol of police regiment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Operations Regiment Special Purpose Regiment of Civil Defense and the Republican military commissariat. A bit later the central apparatus of the Ministry of Defence was founde: General Staff, management, and some departments.

In May 1992 the Ministry of Defense started its first call-up for military service in the country, paving the tradition of recruiting the army conscripts.

In an aspect of the underlying processes and tasks the way of our army Armenian Defense Ministry conditionally divides into 3 stages.

The first stage - February 1988 - May 1992, when in activation of the Karabakh movement and extreme tension of the Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, ensuring the military security of the people of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh became more than urgent.

The second stage - June 1992. - May 1994, when already independent Republic of Armenia with Nagorno-Karabakh Republic was in an undeclared, but actual war with Azerbaijan, during which the creation of the National Army was initiated.

The third stage - from June 1994 to present. This stage can be called the period of army building, sustainable development, improve combat effectiveness, strengthening discipline, training and retraining of middle and senior officers, as well as the stage of the gradual elimination of barriers to the army-society, when, after the ceasefire the authorities and the army leadership were able to have a peaceful environment to concentrate for the final formation of the army, the military defense system for all required units.

Armenian Army was formed during the formation of an independent state, during the war imposed on Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh from Azerbaijan. Army Day - one of the most revered in Armenia. On this day, the Armenian nation pays tribute to the heroes who died for the country, as well as thanks the veterans and those who still continue to serve the motherland and contribute to the development of one of the main guarantors of the state.
