Former deputy governor of Kakheti arrested in Georgia

Former Deputy Governor of Kakheti region in Eastern Georgia Giorgi Sibashvili was arrested in connection with the embezzlement of money from the state budget. At a press conference held at the Georgian Finance Ministry on Wednesday it was stated that Sibashvili is accused of several cases of embezzlement of state funds.

According to the investigation, Sibashvili drafted contracts for the restoration of roads and houses of people affected by natural disasters under his relatives and friends. In addition he wrote out illegal bonuses for himself.

Sibashvili embezzled several hundreds of thousands of lari. Currently Sibashvili is charged under two articles of Georgian Criminal Code.
