Wednesday night at the Santiago Bernabéu truly belonged to Raphael Varane and the young Frenchman's face at the end of the game said it all.
Varane, in the starting line-up due to the injury to Pepe and the suspension of Sergio Ramos, was Real Madrid's stand-out performer against Barcelona, leading the defence, making three decisive, goal-saving tackles and then scoring the equalising goal late in the second half.
"I will always remember this game, it's a dream come true for a 19-year-old," said Varane after the game."
"I go home tonight very happy with my performance and that of the team's. Now I just need to keep playing like this."
The Frenchman revealed that his team-mates recognised his outstanding performance.
"Mourinho told me to give everything I had and after the game my team-mates congratulated me," he said.
