Gunman trying to kill Paruyr Hayrikyan arrested

"Having the preliminary data, last night the gunman trying to kill the candidate for presidency, the leader of "National Self-Determination" party Paruyr Hayrikyan was arrested", news.shanttv.com reports.

Speaking to Lurer.com, press service of the National Security Service neither refuted nor confirmed the information, urging to wait for the official information.

As Lurer.com informed earlier, an assassination attempt was made against presidential candidate, opposition National Self-Determination Union Chairman Paruyr Hayrikyan, on January 31 at around 23:30 p.m. in downtown Yerevan. 

Surgery performed on Hayrikian at the Medical Centre of St. Gregory the Illuminator was successfully completed and Hayrikyan's state is stable.

Legal proceedings were instituted under Article 34-305 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (attempted murder of a statesman, political or public figure committed for termination of his activities and shall be punished by imprisonment for a term of 10 to 15 years, or life imprisonment). A joint investigation group consisting of law enforcement officers and National Security Service employees has been created. The case is under the jurisdiction of the National Security Service.
