NSS announced the names of those detained on suspicion in committing assassination attempt against RA presidential candidate

As a result of the National Security Service of Armenia operational-investigative activities, on February 7 on suspicion in committing  assassination attempt against presidential candidate of Armenia Paruyr Hayrikyan two men were arrested. They are illegally in Yerevan, without a certain occupation, previously convicted for drug trafficking Khachatur Poghosyan (born in 1966) and Samvel Harutyunyan (born in 1972).

H.Pogosyan and S. Harutyunyan gave a confession. Motives are checked, details of the investigation will be announced later.

To note, that an assassination attempt was made against presidential candidate, opposition National Self-Determination Union Chairman Paruyr Hayrikyan, on January 31 at around 23:30 p.m. in downtown Yerevan.

Surgery performed on Hayrikian at the Medical Centre of St. Gregory the Illuminator was successfully completed and Hayrikyan's state is stable.

Legal proceedings were instituted under Article 34-305 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (attempted murder of a statesman, political or public figure committed for termination of his activities and shall be punished by imprisonment for a term of 10 to 15 years, or life imprisonment). A joint investigation group consisting of law enforcement officers and National Security Service employees has been created. The case is under the jurisdiction of the National Security Service.
