Daily Star. Wounded Armenian candidate calls for delay in vote
World Press
The presidential candidate in Armenia who was shot and wounded has appealed to the country's Constitutional Court to postpone the election for two weeks.
The election was scheduled to take place on Feb. 18.
But Paruir Hayrikian, who was shot near his home on Jan. 31, said the time he has spent in the hospital being treated for the shoulder wound has hindered his campaign. And on Sunday he formally submitted his appeal to delay the vote, a procedure allowed under the constitution.
The shooting has thrown the election into disarray but is not expected to change the outcome: Polls show incumbent President Serge Sarkisian winning up to 70 percent of the vote.
Hayrikian is one of seven candidates running against him.
