On Nov. 22, Armenia celebrates bank workers' day and 18th anniversary of issuance of the national currency, the Dram. PM Tigran Sargsyan released a statement on this occasion.
"This date is significant in history because it was on this day in 1993 that newly-independent Armenia's national currency, the Dram, was issued. The Dram experienced numerous difficulties on its road to being established. In parallel, with formation of the banking system, the national currency likewise was established. It is thanks to you that the banking system has become one of Armenian economy's most established branches. Over the course of its around twenty-year existence, it has had ascents and has demonstrated its capability to withstand the challenges of the unfavorable global economic climate. Armenia's banking system was one of those few in CIS [Commonwealth of Independent States], and even in the whole world, which did not need any state intervention to counter the crisis," PM Tigran Sargsyan's statement specifically reads.
PM also noted that, despite the achievements in this domain, there are still many things to do.
