Former Armenian presidential candidate may challenge election results in Constitutional Court

Former Armenian presidential candidate Arman Melikyan, who prematurely ended his campaign and urged others to boycott elections, may appeal to the Constitutional Court to challenge the election results. This was stated by him during a press conference today, 7or.am reported.

He justified his move not through trust to the Constitutional Court, but by the need to obtain the grounds for appeal to international institutions.

Melikyan said the last election circus was also attended by international observers, who legitimised the crime. "There is a certain part of them that is constantly making money out of this," the former candidate said.

As for the rally organised by Raffi Hovannisian in Liberty Square, Melikyan stated he was not ready to join it.

"Raffi Hovannisian and other candidates took part in this circus and legitimised it. Now they're trying to swing their fists after the battle, but they have already failed. They knew the elections would be rigged, but were still willing to participate in them," Melikyan said.

Presidential elections were held in Armenia on Feb.18. The incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan won the presidential elections scoring 58.64 per cent of the votes. First Foreign Minister of Armenia Raffi Hovannisian ranked second scoring 36.75 per cent, while former Prime Minister Hrant Bagratyan ranked third scoring 2.15 per cent.
