Khabarovsk awarded with title of Hero City
Russia
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has awarded the Far Eastern city of Khabarovsk with the title of a Hero City.
This title is given mainly to cities, the residents of which expressed heroism during WWII.
At a ceremony in Moscow, Mr. Putin handed an honorary certificate, which confirms the city’s new title, to Khabarovsk’s Mayor Alexander Sokolov.
The ceremony was held on the eve of the Russian Army’s Day, which is marked on February 23.
“Khabarovsk was founded in the middle of the 19th century,” Vladimir Putin said, “and its residents have always been famous for their labor and battle heroism, especially during WWII.”
The President thanked everyone who has studied Khabarovsk archives to bring names of forgotten heroes back from oblivion, Voice of Russia reports.
