New Cypriot President pledges speedy loan from EU, IMF

The new Cypriot President, Nikos Anastasiadis, has pledged in a statement, broadcast by a government television channel, that he will secure a speedy loan from the European Union and the International Monetary Fund.
He offered assurances that he would remain consistent and fully honour the pledges made.
He also pointed out that he would carry out all structural reform to restore stability and economic growth.
Anastasiadis, supported by three right-wing parties, was elected Cypriot President in the second round on Sunday. He polled more than 57% of the vote and defeated the candidate of the AKEL left-wing party, Stvros Malas.
