Turnout drops 7% as Italy goes to polls in 2-day parliamentary election

Italy’s parliamentary elections have stepped into the second day. The first day’s turnout has been estimated at 55%, registering a 7% decline compared to the 2008 vote.
Polling stations will close at 3pm local time. Silvio Berlusconi’s center-right coalition has been edging towards the leading center-left alliance which is headed by Pier Luigi Bersani.
