Russians remember Cliburn

The legendary U.S. pianist Van Cliburn, who died on Wednesday at the age of 78, had maintained close ties with Russia throughout his life, Moscow Conservatory Rector Alexander Sokolov said on Thursday.
Last August, Cliburn was diagnosed with bone cancer in the advanced stage. At the age of 28, he rose to international recognition after winning the First International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow at the height of the “Cold War”.
