Putin in fallen soldiers memory tribute
Russia
President Vladimir Putin has laid a wreath to a memorial to 84 Russian commandoes who fell in Chechnya in 2000 in an operation to check the advance of some 2,500 rebels led by the Arab Jihadist known as Khattab.
Only six members of the Russian commando company survived the battle.
The rebels lost about 700 men killed.
The memorial is in the northwestern Russian city of Pskov, home of the airborne division that sent the 90 heroes to Chechnya.
The Chechen capital Grozny now has a street named after the 84 fallen soldiers, RIA reports.
