Syrian soldiers killed in Iraq
Middle East
The authorities in Baghdad have confirmed the death on Monday of 48 Syrian soldiers and officials at the hands of unknown gunmen in the country’s Anbar province on the Syrian border.
Late last week government sources in Baghdad said that a group of about 65 Syrians crossed into Iraq shortly after Syrian rebels had seized a border outpost.
The Iraqi authorities then decided to deport the refugees. As the deportees were being moved towards the border, the convoy was ambushed by terrorists resulting in the death of nine Iraqi soldiers, TASS reports.
