The untimely death of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is a great loss for the people of Venezuela and Syria, Syrian President Bashar Assad was quoted as saying on Wednesday by the official SANA news agency.

“The demise of President Chavez is as big a loss for me personally and all Syrians as it is for the brotherly people of Venezuela and all honest and freedom-loving people everywhere,” President Assad wrote in a personal message to Venezuelan Vice President Nicolas Maduro.
